Cool, Manny. Nobody gets rich off goats, even if you've got registered show stock. *lol* You make more on the milk or meat than you do on the critter...

And maybe the cougars are different here in Utah, but I think Matt's cougar is a cute little guy. His head is almost cheetah-sized compared to the cougars we get here. My step-dad had one made into a rug, and its paws were like dinner plates. Its skull was the same size as the brown bear he had mounted...

Maybe they eat a lot of spinach here? :D

Crap. Missing an ewe today, wool trail going over the fence, then a drag mark through the mud and another big cat print. Crap.

Orphaned ewe is out there trying to get a drink from anyone who will stand for it. Crap.

Sounds like your cat might have had a mate nearby, Matt. I hope one of the ewes takes pity on that baby.

Rare is the ewe that will take on an orphan. Hopefully it's a girl, sounds like Matt may be getting his bottle baby project after all...

My theory on the orphan is that an ewe can't adopt him if I interfere, so they are on their own on this one. I think it's all good, no crying this morning that I can hear, so it's either dead or fed.

Cat was another male, around 130 lbs. It's dead now. Fish and Wildlife officer treed it with hounds and shot it about half an hour ago.

Glad they got the cat. Sorry to here about your losing a ewe. That sucks. In a way its a shame that they had to kill such a beautiful animal, but once they get used to an easy meal from the farm you really do not have much of a choice. Glad they got it, hope that's the last one for awhile. :)

Oh man! Again?! What are the chances? Either they have you staked out or you should go buy a lottery ticket.

Do you have electric fences? I wonder how much that would help? Once you buy the solar charger and battery the rest is pretty cheap. I've had good luck with predators since putting up electric, but I also don't have big cats around too often and it might just be luck...

I'm with you on sticking it to the ewe. That's been my philosophy with the sheep and goats. Either they figure it out or I don't want them around anyway.

Yeah, I'm all electric. Just checked last night, that pasture's line is running at 8,500 volts. They just go right over.

I think I've had a successful adoption. Either that, or it's eating grass. Everybody seems fine, thankfully. All quiet last night, hopefully that's it for this episode.

Lamb is all settled in with her new mama. Had a baby girl calf born Saturday morning. Weak little thing, worrying the mama to death since it's sleeping so much, but all seems good at this point. No cougar attacks since Wednesday or whenever that last one was, so I'm starting to relax a bit. Nice to have a new little calf around...so cute!
