In researching tar based repellents, I happened upon a product calked Stanley's Crow Repellent. It is a now-discontinued product Youngblood used to use every year on his corn seed to keep the crows off. It is made from coal tar and creosote oil. I'd be willing to bet money that any type of tar (such as bone tar or pine tar) will work just as well.
Since we replanted some corn recently that had been coated with bone tar, which began sprouting just today, we should know in short order if Sepp's bone sauce is a good proxy for Stanley's Crow Repellent
Here is an article that shows the ingredients of Stanley's Crow Repellent that also talks about the currently-government-approved substitute.
"Solve world hunger, tell no one." "The, the, the . . . The Grinch!"
"If you can't beat them, bite them."
